Tree Removal Permits in the Truckee-Tahoe Region

Homeowners in the Lake Tahoe area do not need a permit to remove a tree that has been declared dead by an expert. However, they may need to apply for a tree removal permit from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in other situations.

A tree diameter at breast height (DBH) of more than 14 inches if it is not along the lakeshore.

A DBH above 6 inches if the tree is between a house and the lake. A tree not between the lake and the house will only need a permit for removal if its DBH is more than 14 inches.

Other parts of the greater Truckee-Tahoe region have other requirements. For instance, the town of Truckee does not typically require tree removal permits for single-family residential properties.

Efficient, Safe, Tidy

“The good people at Arbor Solutions Tree Care were outstanding to work with. They removed one fir tree and trimmed several large pines. They were efficient, safe, tidy, and their pricing was reasonable. They are also highly involved in the local community and donate their time to neighborhood cleanup events and banner installation in our downtown area. I highly recommend them.”
